Freeman, Scherzer get record raises

MYRTLE BEACH (SC)—Player salaries slightly dropped for the first time in five seasons. But don’t tell that to Freddy Freeman. The Scrappers and their prized first baseman, aka The Chosen One, signed off on a record deal worth 126s per year.

Zach Grienke held the previous mark, 108s.

But Freeman’s record payday won’t last long. His salary is dwarfed next season: Max Scherzer gets paid 198s. Indianapolis lured the free agent from Brick Church when both parties agreed to a jaw-dropping, 5-year contract worth 858s.

The average player salary fell from 6.41 to 6.30s.

Greys, payroll king
Homestead posted the highest payroll, 389s. Brooklyn is No. 2, 384s. No other club surpassed the Norm Cash Cap of 377s.

LES shows fiscal restraint, ends with lowest payroll, 222s.
